Welcome!

Hello and welcome to hook and yarn. I'm Jane, and this is my place to write about the things I knit and crochet, with a little baking and gardening thrown in sometimes too!

Blue-eyed daisy square

http://gillyflower5.blogspot.com/

This is the square I designed based on Gill's lovely photos of a flower in her garden.
All terms are American crochet. I've just written it out the way I understand, so I don't know if it'll make sense to anyone else!  It does ruckle a little in the centre with having no increase in stitch number, but when I tried with increases, the colour changes didn't look as good, and in any case, a good blocking sorts it out, no trouble!

2 tr cr tog = yarn over 2 times, insert hook and pull up loop, (yarn over, pull through 2 loops) two times, yarn over two times, insert hook into same st and pull up loop, (yarn over, pull through 2 loops) twice, yarn over and pull through all three loops on hook.

Round 1: Make a magic ring, ch1. 12sc into ring, then pull really tight so there's no hole, and join with sl st into first sc. Fasten off.

Round 2: Ch1 with colour 2, 1sc into each sc round, join w sl st. Fasten off. [12sc]

Round 3: Ch1 with colour 3, 1sc into each sc round, join w sl st.

Round 4: Ch1 still using colour 3, 1sc into each sc round. Fasten off.

Round 5: Ch4 with colour 4, make 1 tr into same stitch, ch2. (2 tr cr tog, ch2) 11 times. Join w sl st into top of first tr of round. Fasten off. [12 pairs of tr cr separated by 2ch]

Round 6: Join colour 5 into one of ch sp. Ch3 [= 1dc], then into same sp work 2dc, ch1 [makes one side cluster]
Into next sp work 3dc, ch1 [side cluster]
                 Into next sp work 3dc, ch2, 3dc, ch1 [1st corner cluster]
Into next sp work 3dc, ch1 [side cluster]
Into next sp work 3dc, ch1 [side cluster]
                 Into next sp work 3dc, ch2, 3dc, ch1 [2nd corner]
Into next sp work 3dc, ch1 [side cluster]
Into next sp work 3dc, ch1 [side cluster]
                 Into next sp work 3dc, ch2, 3dc, ch1 [3rd corner]
Into next sp work 3dc, ch1 [side cluster]
Into next sp work 3dc, ch1 [side cluster]
                 Into next sp work 3dc, ch2, 3dc, ch1 [4th corner]
Join w sl st to 3rd ch of original ch3. Fasten off.

Round 7: Join colour 5 again into one of side spaces, then ch3 [= 1dc], 2dc, ch1, then work 3dc, ch1 into each side space, and 3dc, ch2, 3dc, ch1 into each corner cluster. Join with sl st to 3rd ch of original ch3.
Weave in ends, then block so it's a neat square.

Then make them into whatever you want!  If anyone does use this pattern, I'd love to see what you make with it! And do please link to my blog if you use it  :)
